R8 Trauma Document Library

A variety of documents that may be helpful for trauma programs

in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Endorsed Trauma Courses

MODEL TRAUMA SYSTEM PLANNING AND EVALUATION authored by the US Department of Health and Human Services, HRSA, states, "The regional trauma network establishes and ensures that appropriate levels of EMS, nursing and physician trauma training courses are provided on a regular basis."

The Region 8 Trauma Network has issued a LIST of recommended courses for personnel treating trauma patients.

Rehabilitation Programs

The only licensed in-patient trauma rehabilitation center in the Upper Peninsula is UPHS Marquette.  Depending upon the needs of the trauma patient, centers beyond the UP may be utilized.  Depending upon what is required for rehabilitation and the patient's status, a person may be discharged to home with physical and/or occupational therapy orders or they may be discharged to hospital swing beds or skilled nursing facilities that incorporate therapies. The hospital discharge planners must have a resource directory with program capabilities to ensure the right patient is referred to the right place.
